A resume can be your only chance to impress the employer and increase your chances of getting a job, this is why it is vital to make it look professional. A resume builder, for instance is simple to use and it can help you achieve this.

Basically, what a resume builder does is to offer you the necessary templates, all you have to do is to fill in the blanks. Otherwise stated, you do not need to have any particular knowledge with regards to writing a resume and what should you mention.

Fully understanding the importance of a well-designed resume is essential when it comes to applying for a job. It must contain some personal information, as well as relevant information about your previous work experience (if case), your education and your skills and hobbies. Remember to be self-confident and state your qualities truthfully. Nonetheless, do not be too confident since that may not look very good!

In conclusion, a good first impression undoubtedly counts a lot in the eyes of the employer, and sometimes a professionally written resume can count more than the information you mention in it!

At work, communication is the first key to success, and good communication starts with listening. In our high-tech workplaces, we possess a wide array of communication options. Each mode has its benefits and drawbacks, and the right choice usually comes down to the message and the audience.

1. Desktop Alerts

Desktop alerts, such as those available at www.snapcomms.com/products/desktop-alert.aspx are a feature common in many business email platforms. Alerts are a fast way to send important information, regardless of audience size. Alerts grab attention, and they don’t necessarily require a response from the reader. Alerts are best used for small bits of news.

2. Internal Newsletter

Larger items of news are best saved for the internal newsletter. Internal newsletters are a great way to inform, exchange ideas and build camaraderie. Furthermore, with modern technology, digital newsletters are relatively inexpensive and easy to compose. (For more information on internal newsletter see www.snapcomms.com/products/internal-newsletter.aspx)

3. Email

Email is the most common form of communication in the modern office. Email finds a nice middle ground between internal letters and desktop alerts. The biggest issue with email is that it is so commonplace that we tend to abuse it. Many times, there are other better options.

4. Text Messages

Instant messages and text messages are an excellent alternative to email. Text messages are fast and personal, and a particularly strong choice when communicating brief items with a single person. Messaging is also a strong choice for communications that require multiple brief replies.

5. Sticky Notes

Physical sticky notes might seem old-fashioned, but they’re still effective, and they might be an excellent choice when looking for a new way to grab someone’s attention. Think of them as a text message that you hand deliver.

6. Phone Calls

If considering a phone call, consider a face-to-face conversation first. Today, we tend to use phone calls only for elaborate talks, when emails and other e-communication would fall short. In a local work environment, phone calls can seem impersonal, and face-to-face conversations are often more effective.

Oil Rigs

Oil rigs, also known as oil platforms, are complex structures designed and built to extract oil from the ground and store it temporarily. Many oil rigs today are located offshore. They come in many sizes and configurations and may be fixed permanently to the ocean floor, or they may float. Some of the floating oil rigs are the largest moveable structures on earth. As oil exploration around the world becomes more focused on offshore fields, the number of offshore oil rigs will continue to increase.

Jobs on an Oil Platform

There are many different jobs on oil rigs. (To learn more see www.workontherigs.com) There are skilled and professional jobs such as managers, engineers, control room technicians, helicopter pilots, production technicians, crane operators, maintenance personnel, automation specialists, chefs, fire control personnel, operations planners and watercraft technicians. There are also a significant number of unskilled labor jobs on each oil rig. These include people who clean, cook, wash clothing, move equipment and supplies, do odd jobs, and handle pipe used in drilling. Unskilled laborers are often called roughnecks and roustabouts. Oil exploration and drilling companies devote a great deal of time, effort and resources to safe operations. However, no matter how much emphasis management places on safety, oil rigs are inherently dangerous. Consequently, people who work on oil rigs are usually very well compensated, even those in unskilled jobs.

Work Schedules on an Oil Platform

Typically, oil rig jobs entail living on the oil platform. Most people work as part of a crew that stays on the rig for a set period of time before being replaced by another crew. Personnel travel to and from an offshore oil rig by helicopter. Usually, oil companies follow a seven-day or fourteen-day schedule. This means that a crew works for seven or fourteen days consecutively and then takes seven or fourteen days off. Most oil rigs run on a shift schedule consisting of two twelve-hours shifts each day. Some people find these schedules grueling, but others do not mind the long shifts and enjoy the long downtime periods.
